Quick answer

Can I buy less than one whole coin?

Yes. Bitcoin divides into 100 million units, and every platform sells fractions.

Yes, and it is the normal case. You buy an amount of money's worth, not a whole coin — the same way you buy a currency.

Bitcoin divides into 100,000,000 units, each called a satoshi. Ether divides into a billion billion units, which is where the small numbers on fee screens come from. Most tokens are similar.

So the price of one coin tells you nothing about whether you can afford it. It is a unit choice, not a barrier — and a coin priced at fractions of a cent is not "cheaper" in any meaningful sense, because there may be a hundred billion of them.

What matters is the total value of everything in circulation, and that comparison is the whole point of the term market cap.

Buying your first coin walks through the sequence.
