I sent money to an exchange and it has not arrived. What now?
Check the reference code and the clock before you worry — most delayed deposits are one of four ordinary things.
In order of how often it happens:
The reference code was missing or wrong. Platforms match deposits automatically by that code. Without it the transfer is not lost, but it moves to a manual process measured in days rather than minutes.
The transfer went outside working hours. Instant systems settle at any time; older ones do not settle until the next business day, and a Friday evening transfer can mean Monday.
The name did not match. Money sent from an account in somebody else's name is commonly rejected and returned, sometimes weeks later and minus fees.
Your bank is holding it for review. Common on first transfers to a crypto platform, and usually resolved by confirming it was you.
Open a ticket with the platform, quote the amount, date and reference, and be patient. And never accept help from anybody who contacts you first about it — that is the second scam.
