Is staking safe?
The mechanism is well understood. The risks are the lock-up, the price, and whoever you stake through.
Staking pays because a network needs participants to lock coins and help produce blocks honestly. That part is real and the source of the payment is nameable, which already separates it from most things advertised as yield.
The risks are elsewhere. Coins are locked, and unlocking takes days or weeks on many networks — "I will just unstake if something happens" is not a plan, because by the time you can move, the thing has happened. The price can fall further than the reward. A misbehaving validator can be penalised, and delegated stake shares that penalty.
And the arrangement matters: staking natively while keeping custody is a different proposition from staking through a platform that holds your coins, where you are also trusting the platform.
Anything advertising a fixed daily percentage is not staking, whatever it is called.
Staking, three ways compares the arrangements.
