Is it worth reporting a crypto theft to the police?
Yes, even when nothing comes back. It is free, it creates the record, and patterns get investigated.
Expectations first: most individual reports do not end with recovered funds, and anybody promising otherwise for a fee is lying.
Report anyway, for reasons that are real. A police report is the record any later action requires — an insurer, a civil claim, a tax loss, an exchange's compliance team. Aggregated reports are how repeat operations get identified at all, since no single victim shows the pattern. And where funds reached a regulated exchange fast, a report plus the transaction hash is what makes a freeze possible.
Report to the exchange the funds arrived at as well — they are the only party who can actually freeze anything — and to your financial regulator, whose warning list is how the next person avoids it.
All three cost nothing. Everything that costs money is the second scam.
If your funds are gone is the first-hour version.
