Who is on the other side
In the first minutes the counterparty is rarely another enthusiast. It is usually software, and often the same person who created the token.
Every trade has somebody on the other end. When you buy a token minutes after it appears, it is worth knowing who that is, because the answer is almost never the picture people carry in their heads — a crowd of individuals arriving at the same conclusion at the same time.
The wallets that bought before anybody could see it
Supply gets distributed at launch, and distributing it across many addresses is trivial. One person can control dozens of wallets, fund them from the same source, and have them all buy within the same block. The practice is called bundling and it exists to make one holder look like many.
Afterwards the token displays a healthy-looking holder count. The chart shows early buying. Neither reflects a crowd. And when those wallets sell, they sell as one decision, because they are one decision.
Holder count is a count of addresses, not of people
Addresses are free and unlimited. Any figure presented as community size is a count of accounts, and accounts do not correspond to humans in either direction.
Sniper bots
Software watches for new pools and buys the instant one is created, in the same block if it can. It is faster than any person can be, it does this all day across every launch, and it is not making a judgement about the token — it is buying early supply on a curve that is cheap at the start.
This matters for the obvious reason: by the time a launch is visible to you on a data site or in a chat, the cheap portion is gone. It also matters for a less obvious one. Snipers sell into the buying that follows, so the arrival of ordinary buyers is the event they were waiting for. You are not early. You are the reason it was worth being early.
The team, wearing other clothes
Nothing prevents a token's creator from holding supply through wallets that have no visible connection to them. There is no registry, no disclosure requirement and no penalty for silence. Statements like "the team holds two per cent" are unverifiable claims about which wallets belong to whom.
What is checkable is the shape of the distribution, and it is more informative than any statement.
- How concentrated is itWhat share do the top ten addresses hold between them. A large share means a small number of decisions can end the price, whatever anybody intends.
- Where did those wallets come fromExplorers show funding history. Several large holders funded from one source, within minutes of each other, is one holder wearing several coats.
- When did they buyAddresses that bought in the first block did not find the token. They were waiting for it, or they made it.
- What have they done sinceSteady outflows from large holders while the promotion is still running tell you which direction the informed money is going.
The tools for all four are in reading a block explorer and checking a token contract. None of it requires trusting anybody's word.
The visible enthusiasm is often bought
Chat activity, replies, follower counts and trending slots are all purchasable, and cheaply relative to what a launch expects to collect. Treat visible excitement as marketing spend, because that is usually what it is.
What this does not mean
It does not mean every launch is a fraud, or that the people involved are all coordinating. Plenty are ordinary gambling among people who know exactly what they are doing and enjoy it.
It means the assumption behind "I got in early" is usually wrong. Somebody was earlier, they were probably software, and in a market where the only source of profit is somebody buying after you, being late is not a small disadvantage. It is the whole game.
This is a zero-sum arrangement
Unlike a business, nothing here produces earnings. Every gain is another participant's loss, minus fees paid to the pool and the network. That is not a criticism of anybody's choices — it is the structure, and it is worth naming before deciding how much to risk.
